- In the 2012 season BMW took part in the DTM as a third manufacturer in addition to Audi and Mercedes-Benz. BMW entered three teams with two cars each. The 2012 DTM season saw many alterations to the rules. A crucial requirement was to reduce the costs for all teams. All DTM cars therefore have an identical carbon fibre monocoque construction and a standard large rear spoiler. The wheelbase, width and length are the same for all DTM cars. The weight is a standard 1050 kg inclusive of driver. Martin Tomczyk was successful with the new BMW right from the outset. In addition to several places on the podium he also made the fastest lap. In total the 2011 DTM champion won a good 69 points in the 2012 season.
